Coastal and Maritime Tourism can contribute to growth and the creation of job opportunities

In the opening session of the High Level Conference on Coastal and Maritime Tourism that was held today (10.3.2014) at the Acropolis Museum, in the framework of the Informal Meeting of Ministers for Tourism, Greece’s Minister of Tourism,  Olga Kefalogianni, referred to the challenges and opportunities arising from “Coastal and Maritime Tourism” for the EU countries.

EU Employment and Social Affairs Ministers discussed at an EPSCO Council meeting today (10.3.2014) under the Greek Presidency, the European Semester, Europe 2020 Strategy, youth employment and Youth Guarantee related issues and adopted a Recommendation on a Quality Framework for Traineeship.

The first session of the EPSCO Council under the Greek Presidency took place today, (10.3.2014) in Brussels, chaired by the Greek Minister of Labour, Social Security and Welfare, Ioannis Vroutsis.

High Level Conference on Coastal and Maritime Tourism in Athens today (10.3.2014)

On the occasion of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council, the European Commission, the Ministry of Tourism of Greece and the Greek National Tourism Organisation organise a High Level Conference on Coastal and Maritime Tourism, as well an Informal Ministerial Meeting at the Acropolis Museum today (10.3.2014).

Employment and Social Policy Issues to be discussed at the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council

The Council meeting, starting at 10.00 (CET), will be chaired by Mr Ioannis VROUTSIS, minister for Employment, Social Protection and Welfare of Greece.

The Council will be called on to agree in principle on a decision on the tripartite social summit for growth and employment.

The Council is due to adopt a recommendation on a quality framework for traineeships.

It will hold a policy debate on the employment and social policy aspects of the 2014 European Semester exercise, adopting relevant documents.

An amended Directive on taxation of savings and the review of the Council’s position on the Single Resolution Mechanism for banks on the ECOFIN agenda (11.03.2014)

The adoption of an amended Directive on taxation of savings, the review of the Council’s position on the Single Resolution Mechanism for banks (SRM), with a view to finalising negotiations with the European Parliament, the follow-up to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ meeting in Sydney and the economic elements of the EU 2030 energy and climate framework are the main topics of the ECOFIN Council on 11 March, under the presidency of the Greek Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras.

Inland navigation: New regulation promoting inland waterway transport

The member states' permanent representatives endorsed today (7.3.2014)  the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning an updated regulation on a Community fleet capacity policy to promote inland waterway transport.

The new text also provides for measures to strengthen the organisations representing inland waterway transport at EU level. The sector currently suffers from fragmentation, and stronger Union-wide organisations can help to mitigate this.

Agreement reached to amend Emissions Trading Scheme for aviation (7.3.2014)

The Permanent Representatives Committee endorsed today (7.3.2014) the agreement reached between the Presidency of the Council and representatives of the European Parliament on 4 March, regarding a draft regulation amending the EU Emissions trading scheme (ETS) directive (2003/87/EC), in view of the implementation by 2020 of an international agreement applying a single global market-based measure to international aviation emissions.
