EYCS Council in Brussels (20-21.05.2014) – Day 2

The second day of the Ministerial Council on Education, Youth, Culture and Sport (EYCS) (Culture & Sport), chaired by Minister of Culture and Sports, Panos Panagiotopoulos, is taking place today (21.05.2014), in Brussels. 

Culture Ministers are expected to adopt for the first time Conclusions related to cultural heritage as a strategic resource towards a sustainable Europe. The Conclusions underline the crucial role of cultural heritage to economic development and social cohesion, especially in a period of economic crisis which affects all Europe.

EYCS (Education & Youth) Council focuses on high quality education and youth entrepreneurship

The Ministerial Council on Education, Youth, Culture and Sport (EYCS) (Education & Youth), chaired by Athanasios Kyriazis, Greek Secretary General  for Education and Religious Affairs, met in Brussels today, 20 May 2014.

In the Education session, the Council adopted the following conclusions:

• on effective teacher education,
• on multilingualism and the development of language competencies,
• on quality assurance supporting education and training.

EYCS Council in Brussels (20-21.05.2014) – Day 1

Α two-day Ministerial Council on Education, Youth, Culture and Sport (EYCS) is taking place in Brussels on 20-21 May.

On the first day, the meeting, which will be chaired by the Greek Secretary-General for Education and Religious Affairs, Athanasios Kyriazis, will start at 10:00 (CET) with the Education session. During a working lunch, ministers will discuss the role of education and training in the forthcoming review of the Europe 2020 strategy.

The afternoon session is expected to start at 15:00 (CET) and will be devoted to youth-related issues.

Plant protection measures adopted at AGRIFISH Council in Brussels (19.05.2014)

Plant protection measures were adopted during the Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Brussels on 19 May chaired by Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Athanasios Tsaftaris.

The Agrifish Council, which convened in Brussels on 19 May under the chairmanship of Minister of Rural Development and Food, Athanasios Tsaftaris, examined the Commission’s report on the minor uses in the field of plant protection products.

Foreign Affairs Council (Development) (Brussels, 19.05.2014)

The Foreign Affairs Council (Development), chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, took place in Brussels, today (19.05.2014).  The Council exchanged views on the preparation of a new post-2015 framework, while Ministers took stock of the ongoing work at UN level and discussed the EU's role in the process.

Energy security, financing PCIs & measures promoting energy efficiency, at the Informal Council of Energy Ministers

Α two-day Informal Council of Energy Ministers, chaired by the Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change Yannis Maniatis, took place at Zappeion Megaron  in Athens, on 15-16 May, with the participation of  the Commissioner for Energy, Günther Oettinger and the competent EU Ministers.

Energy efficiency, security and infrastructure at the centre of the Informal Energy Council (Athens, 15-16.5.2014)

EU Ministers of Energy meet on 15-16 May for the Informal Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council, chaired by Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Yannis Maniatis.

Discussions will mainly focus on energy efficiency, security and infrastructure as well as on the connection between “Europe 2020” strategy, industrial competitiveness and policies on climate and energy.

Blue growth, climate change and energy package at the Informal Council Meeting of EU Environment Ministers

An Informal Council of EU Environment Ministers, chaired by Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Yannis Maniatis, convened today (14.5.2014) in Athens. Commissioners for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard, and Environment Janez Potočnik, participated at the meeting, along with the competent Ministers of Member States, candidate countries (including almost all Balkan countries) and countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
