Greek Presidency marks International Roma Day

On the occasion of the International Roma Day on 8 April, Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou underlined the EU’s commitment to the protection of Roma rights.

“The Greek Presidency affirms its determination to prevent and combat discrimination against Roma in all its forms and to facilitate the inclusion of Roma in the European societies”, Minister Athanasiou said.

Informal Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs (Gymnich) concludes in Athens

The Informal meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers took place within the framework of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, on 4 and 5 April 2014, at the Zappeion Megaron, in Athens.

Following the conclusion of the two-day meeting, EU High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission, Catherine Ashton
 and Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Evangelos Venizelos held a press conference.

COREPER approves agreements on the Payment Accounts Directive (PAD) and on the Regulation on Key Information Documents for Packaged Retail and Insurance Based Investment Products (PRIIPs)

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU (COREPER) approved today (4.4.2014) the agreements reached between the Greek Presidency and the European Parliament on the Payment Accounts Directive (PAD) and on the Regulation on Key Information Documents for Packaged Retail and Insurance Based Investment Products (PRIIPs).

Welcoming the approval of the deal on the Payment Accounts Directive, the President of the ECOFIN Yannis Stournaras said:

Informal Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs (Gymnich)

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will be the host of the Informal “Gymnich” Meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers, which is taking place within the framework of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, on 4 and 5 April 2014, at the Zappeion Megaron, in Athens.



The first day of the Meeting will focus on developments in the European Union’s Southern and Eastern Neighbourhoods – with emphasis on the situation in Ukraine and Syria – and on the Union’s relations with its strategic partners.

Greek Presidency priorities’ course of implementation on justice and home affairs issues: Minister of Interior informs the LIBE Committee

The minister of Interior Giannis Michelakis, addressed the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament (LIBE) yesterday, 1 April 2014, in Brussels. The minister presented the state of affairs regarding the implementation of the priorities of the Greek Presidency, as well as the outcome of the recent JHA Council that took place on 3-4 March 2014.
